Introduction to When the Sea Turned to Silver

When the Sea Turned to Silver is a novel by Grace Lin that takes place in ancient China. The book is about a girl named Pinmei rescuing her grandma, who she calls Amah. Pinmei also has a friend named Yishan, who lives at the top of the mountain. You can see the sea from up by Yishan’s house. He lives on his own since his parents passed away. Amah is a well-known storyteller up in their mountain village, and they live near the Mountain Spirit. There are people coming up the mountain and taking young men to go build the Great Wall, and apparently she did not approve, so she was taken away. This book seems great so far, and I can’t wait to continue reading it!
